The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Lead Software Engineer who is not only technically excellent, but also
pragmatic someone who will be a trusted right-hand to the CTO while directly contributing to the
health, quality, and scalability of our platform.
This role is critical to both product development and client implementation success. You will work
directly with engineers, implementation specialists, and leadership to solve technical challenges, maintain
a healthy codebase, and ensure client data can be effectively integrated into our system. Additionally, the
role will be client-facing at times, representing the engineering team and technical concepts to the key
stakeholders of our clients.
You will lead by example unblocking teams, improving engineering practices, and helping drive the
execution of reliable, scalable features while maintaining a sharp focus on data quality and system
integrity.

Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Leadership
Serve as the team’s go-to technical expert solve complex Rails and JavaScript problems,
especially where others get stuck.
Guide implementation teams to develop clean, scalable, and client-safe customizations on top of
the VU OS platform.
Partner with the CTO and senior staff on architectural decisions, with a focus on balancing client
flexibility and core system maintainability.
Enforce strong development practices, including trunk-based development, feature flagging, peer
reviews, and continuous integration.
Directly participate in development efforts, especially for challenging or business-critical work.
Work with TPM and requirements to ensure that tasks are adequately written.
Data Stewardship
Collaborate with Implementation teams to develop systems and processes for managing,
transforming, and integrating client master data (materials, catalogs, pricing, etc.) into VU OS.
Help design and maintain pipelines or tooling to validate, clean, and normalize client-provided
data for production use.
Support production data corrections and sensitive operations when issues occur in live
environments.
Be a technical leader for ensuring client-specific data workflows do not degrade platform
performance or reliability.
Deployment & Environments
Assist in maintaining and improving our existing CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions) and automated
deployment processes.
Ensure smooth operation of Dev, QA, Staging, and Production environments.
Provide hypercare support during releases and major client go-lives.
Team Development & Support
Be a strong technical mentor for engineers of varying levels.
Work in the trenches alongside the development team to ensure quality execution
Act as the first line of escalation for the development team before involving the CTO.
Adeptly represent VU Custom and the Engineering team in client-facing interactions.
Help the team improve both day-to-day development practices and long-term engineering
maturity.
Act as a technical partner to Implementation, Product, and Customer Success teams during client
onboarding and ongoing support.

What We’re Looking For
7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years of technical leadership.
Expert skills in Ruby on Rails and JavaScript (React or equivalent framework).
Strong understanding of modern engineering practices:
Trunk-based development
Feature flags
CI/CD pipelines
Automated testing
Experience working with production data, client-supplied data, and designing internal
data-handling workflows.
Familiarity with ERP systems, product catalogs, or consumer product order management systems
is strongly preferred.
Comfortable working in a client-facing role when needed, especially during critical hypercare
periods.
Excellent communicator and mentor.

The Role:

The Senior Business Systems Analystplays a crucial role in our software implementation practice, acting as a liaison between client and internal stakeholders and technical development teams. You will be responsible for understanding business needs, translating them into functional and non-functional requirements, documenting processes, and ensuring that the software solutions VU Custom develops meet the needs of our clients and stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements Gathering, Analysis and Management:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders (product owners, business users, etc.) to understand their needs, pain points, and desired outcomes.
  • Gather and document detailed business requirements, including functional, non-functional, and use story-based requirements.
  • Successfully manage change to requirements, establishing baselines and communicate to the project manager the need for change requests to ensure solid scope management.
  • Successfully convert data intensive client product specifications into user stories and rendering mockups.
  • Analyze complex spreadsheet-based product data to extract user story scenarios, business rules, acceptance criteria and product component relationships to create rendering requirements.

Process Analysis and Documentation:

  • Analyze existing business processes and identify areas for improvement and automation.
  • Document current processes using flowcharts, diagrams, and other visual tools.
  • Develop and document proposed solutions and workflows.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of overall business requirements, processes, and solutions.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Communicate requirements updates to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Facilitate meetings and workshops to elicit and document requirements.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Effectively translate functional requirements into user stories and communicate these to the development staff.

Testing and Validation:

  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to translate user story acceptance criteria into test scenarios and cases to ensure that VU Custom software solutions meet business requirements.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Identify and document defects and issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, business administration, or a related field. Robust experience may be substituted for this requirement.
  • Certifications in business analysis. CBAP required. CCBA: preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in business analysis, software development, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in business analysis techniques and tools.
  • Extensive experience and expertise with identifying and writing User Stories.
  • Extensive experience and expertise in TDD/BDD methodologies.
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies (e.g., Scrum).
  • Experience and expertise in Data Analysis.
  • Extensive experience and expertise with business analysis process re-engineering.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Adept at working independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing situations, as well as the ability to manage and implement change.
  • Adhere to Business Analysis best practices and processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Ecommerce & consumer Product Order Management
  • Experience with specific software development tools (e.g., Jira, Smartsheets, Zoho).
  • Experience in 3D Modeling.
  • Experience with UX.

 

Location:Fully remote position within the United States. Eastern Time Zone Preferred. Periodic travel required on-site based on client needs.

Technical Project Manager

Position Summary:

Technical Project Manager (TPM)

The Technical Project Manager (TPM) is responsible for providing project management and technical problem solving to plan and implement new customer projects and consulting services. The initial assignment serves an enterprise level client that is a leading global sports brand committed to the most innovative sports equipment in the industry. The VU Custom software enables clients to deliver unique customization, personalization, and decorating experiences to their customers.

The TPM coordinates closely with multiple stakeholders within this enterprise organization and internal teams (Professional Services, Product, Modeling, Engineering, and Account Management teams) to plan, keep project plan tasks updated and execute the implementation of our SaaS products for our brand customers.

As an integral part of the VU Custom team, the duties and deliverables of the TPM will include:

  • Technical Project Planning: Immediately contribute management and coordination expertise to the current project previously outlined through supporting an existing team of professionals. Define scope, objectives, and deliverables for all future phases of project work with multiple levels of complex deliverables and outcomes for the client. Develop, maintain and update detailed project plans, including tasks, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Technical Expert: Understand how VU Custom’s software operates and how it integrates with customers' e-commerce platforms and backend systems in order to coordinate all integration and implementation tasks.
  • Resource Management: Coordinate with internal teams to allocate resources, including developers, designers, and other technical experts, as needed for project execution.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies. Monitor and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and open communication with clients, stakeholders, and team members. Provide regular project status updates and address any concerns or issues promptly.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and client requirements. Conduct thorough testing and quality checks.
  • Time Management: Work closely with customers and internal teams to develop, execute, and monitor implementation/deployment plans and project milestones to successfully deliver solutions within agreed-upon time frames.
  • Budget Management: Track project expenses and ensure adherence to the project budget. Report any deviations and work on cost-saving strategies.
  • Change Management: Manage project scope changes by assessing their impact, obtaining necessary approvals, and ensuring changes are properly documented.
  • Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve project issues in a timely manner. Escalate critical issues to senior management when necessary.
  • Documentation: Maintain project documentation, including project plans, schedules, status reports, and meeting minutes.
  • Travel: Coordinates and manages client site visits as needed. 10+% travel may be required.
  • Client Satisfaction: Continuously assess and address client needs and expectations. Strive to exceed client satisfaction through exceptional project delivery.

Location: This is a USA based, remote position with a preference for candidates located on the East Coast, especially in the New York / Boston metropolitan areas.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s required in a technical or related field (Two years of experience for each year of schooling can be substituted).
  • Minimum of five years of SaaS project management experience or directly transferable skills.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Excellent technical knowledge, with the ability to understand and communicate technical concepts effectively.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and collaboration skills. Comfort working with different teams and large stakeholder groups at various levels of a business.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g.: Jira, Zoho Projects)).
  • Genuine interest in the complexities of the sporting goods consumer products industry and eCommerce best practices.
